Jayil Pak (제이 박)
After graduating from NYU with a degree in film production, Jayil has worked as a director of commercials, music videos, and short films in both the US and South Korea. In the last couple of years, his works have screened in 100+ film festivals and garnered 50+ awards around the world. His last short film Georgia (2020) was nominated for a Korean Oscar, has been featured in The New Yorker’s Screening Room Video Series, and ranked 6th on Screen Rant’s “10 Best Short Films Ever Made According to Letterboxd.” For his latest project, Jayil delved into the world of K-pop, directing a critically acclaimed Disney+ original docuseries on the K-pop sensation NCT 127, uniquely incorporating theater, animation, and performance art. Currently, Jayil is working with an American production company, developing a narrative feature which he hopes to direct this year.
뉴욕대 영화과를 졸업하고 10년간 뉴욕에서 광고/뮤직비디오 감독으로 경력을 쌓았다. 한국에서 부산, 전주, 부천 등 국내 주요 영화제를 비롯해 100여개 이상의 해외 유명 영화제에 초청 및 상을 수상한 바 있다. 그의 최근 단편영화 <조지아>는 부산국제영화제 최우수작품상을 포함 54관왕 수상 기록을 세웠다. 이에 이어 세계적 콘텐츠 그룹인 콘데 나스트와 배급 계약을 맺어 더 뉴요커의 스크리닝 룸 시리즈에 뽑혔으며, 미국 연예 매체 스크린랜트에서 선정한 영화 역사상 최고 단편영화 6위에 오르기도 했다. 그는 차기작으로 연극, 애니메이션, 퍼포먼스 아트 등을 활용한 <NCT 127: 더 로스트 보이즈> 다큐멘터리 미니시리즈를 연출해 NME와 보그 등 많은 언론으로부터 ‘새로운 장르의 탄생’이라는 호평을 받았으며 현재 디즈니 플러스에서 단독 스트리밍 중이다. 제이 박은 다음 작품을 위해 현재 할리우드 영화사와 장편 영화를 기획개발 중이다. —> [제이 박 이력서 2023]
